There were long delays on the M60 this rush hour after two major incidents. A woman fell from a bridge over the motorway in Stockport this afternoon after emergency services were alerted to a concern for welfare at around 3:30pm.

The air ambulance landed and she was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police have confirmed. This saw traffic temporarily stopped in both directions between junction 1 for the Pyramid roundabout and junction 27, the Portwood roundabout.

Around an hour later, at 4:30pm, fire crews were called out after a car erupted into flames on the clockwise stretch near the Pyramid. Thankfully the driver got out of the vehicle and was un-harmed. Two fire engines attended and extinguished the blaze.

Traffic update: 'Severe delays'

Traffic service Inrix say there are still 'severe delays' due to both incidents.

They say the closure related to the bridge incident has now been lifted with all lanes open. However, queues are still stretching back to J5 for Princess Parkway on the anti-clockwise side.

On the clockwise side, the congestion is still stretching back to the Ashton junction (J23) due to the earlier fire near the Pyramid junction. The outside lane (lane three) remains closed they say which is adding to the delays.

They say it is taking people almost an hour to pass this section.

A number of neighbouring routes are also heavily congested as traffic diverts they add.
