In the perilous world of Demon Slayer, an extraordinary group of warriors is tasked to eliminate Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji and his malevolent forces.

Known as the Hashira, these elite warriors are the best fighters in the Demon Slayer Corps. They possess unrivaled strength, unyielding determination, and an unwavering commitment to rid the world of all demons.

Demon Slayer delves into the journey of Tanjiro Kamado, but it’s important to acknowledge the rich history of the Hashira. These characters are an essential part of the series, and many warriors have come and gone since the Ubuyashiki family founded the order almost a thousand years ago.

At the start of the series, there were currently nine active Hashira, but numerous exceptional individuals have been mentioned as part of this revered group. We’ve listed down all Demon Slayer Corp’s pillars mentioned in the manga and anime.

Current Hashira

Giyu Tomioka

Giyu is the first Hashira Tanjiro encounters. He initially tries to kill Nezuko, but after witnessing her protect a helpless Tanjiro, Giyu changes his mind and sends the Kamado siblings to his mentor, Urokodaki Sakonji.

Shinobu Kocho

Shinobu is the Insect Pillar, known to have a calm demeanor. She always has a smile on her face, regardless of the circ*mstances.

The petite pillar enjoys teasing others, particularly Giyu, whom she mocks for being the least liked Hashira. Beneath her cheerful facade, however, she nurtures an intense fury toward demons, blaming them for the loss of her cherished ones, including her elder sister.

Kyojuro Rengoku

Kyojuro is the current Flame Pillar, who inherited the title from his father, Shinjuro. Despite his boisterous and eccentric demeanor, he is pure-hearted and honorable. His mother instilled in him a moral code of protecting the weak.

Tengen Uzui

Tengen is a former shinobi who joined the Demon Slayer Corp. He is the flashy Sound Pillar who tries to be flamboyant in everything he does.

Though arrogant and condescending, Tengen carries profound remorse for his past as a shinobi, having been compelled to eliminate some of his siblings under his father’s command. His decision to join the Demon Slayers stems from a desire to seek redemption.

Mitsuri Kanroji

Mitsuri is the Love Pillar, once a disciple of Kyojuro.

With an overtly passionate and somewhat airheaded nature, she wields a unique whip-like sword made from a malleable metal, mastered only by her. Her extraordinary flexibility and unparalleled physical strength are a result of her denser-than-average muscles. She joined the Corp, hoping to find a man who could love her and be stronger than her.

Muichiro Tokito

Muichiro, the Mist Pillar, outwardly calm and detached, harbors an intense fury toward demons, which fuels his relentless determination to battle them.

Haunted by the death of his twin brother at the hands of a demon, he carries a deep-seated guilt for being the sole survivor—until he meets Tanjiro.

Gyomei Himejima

Gyomei, the Stone Pillar, is renowned as the strongest among his peers. A towering figure with a compassionate heart, he once sheltered orphaned children.

Tragically, when a demon slaughtered the children and falsely accused him, Gyomei’s kindness was overshadowed by a hardened determination to seek justice while remaining compassionate.

Obanai Iguro

The Serpent Pillar, always accompanied by his loyal snake companion, Kaburamaru, is a formidable and tormented warrior. He bears the weight of self-loathing, haunted by a painful past.

Raised by an all-female clan of bandits who worshipped a serpentine demon, he was saved from their grasp by Shinjuro Rengoku. Joining the Demon Slayer Corps became his outlet to unleash his fury and seek retribution for the destruction of his family caused by their demonic ties.

Sanemi Shinazugawa

The present Wind Pillar, known for his confrontational and aggressive nature, sought to expose Nezuko’s demonic essence to the Hashira and Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayer Corp.

Despite his unsuccessful attempt, he remains unwilling to accept the Kamado siblings. During his adolescence, he tragically witnessed the demise of his siblings and was compelled to slay his own mother, who had undergone a demonic transformation.

Retired Hashira

Shinjuro Rengoku

He is the former Flame Pillar and father of Kyojuro and Senjuro, who resigned from the Demon Slayer Corps after recognizing the superiority of the original breath style, Sun Breathing. He spends his days drinking at home until he receives a heartfelt message from Kyojuro, urging him to take care of himself.

Kanae Kocho

Formerly known as the Flower Pillar, she was Shinobu’s biological older sister and Kanao’s adoptive older sister. Tragically, she fell victim to Doma, the powerful Upper Rank Two of the Twelve Demon Moons.

Sakonji Urokodaki

Sakonji Urokodaki is a former Water Pillar. He is initially apprehensive due to Tanjiro’s kind nature but agrees to train him.

As the training goes on, he grows closer to both Tanjiro and Nezuko, and he sheds tears of joy when Tanjiro returns from the Demon Slayer exam alive, as he is the first to do so after a long string of deaths.

He has since kept a close eye on their growth. He has given his word to the Pillars that if Nezuko were to eat a human, then Tanjiro, as well as Giyu and himself, would kill her and themselves in atonement.

Jigoro Kuwajima

Jigoro, a former Thunder Pillar, served as the instructor for Zenitsu and Kaigaku. Adopting the alias “Shihan,” he gained a reputation for mentoring the most challenging students in the series.

Yoriichi Tsugikuni

Yoriichi, the strongest Demon Slayer in history, struck terror into Muzan’s heart as he came close to decapitating the Demon King in the Sengoku Era. Despite his Hashira rank being undisclosed, Yoriichi enjoyed special privileges akin to Pillars, including the unique engraving on his nirichin sword.
