In my house, the only reason to buy bananas is to allow them to become over-ripe so I can mush them up and make banana bread. Now, combining two favorites, bananas and strawberries, I can’t keep the bread around long enough. Once my family smells it is coming out of the oven, it’s every man for himself.

Strawberries and bananas were born to be friends. It’s one of the most common fruit combos. From smoothies to ice cream sundaes, the tart and sweet strawberry mixed with the mellow banana just makes sense.

That combination of fruits is what I love most about banana strawberry bread. Bananas add incredible moisture and flavor already, and with the addition of strawberries, it’s one of the moistest and most flavorful quick breads you’ll ever enjoy.

Quick breads, including banana bread, are incredibly flexible. You can keep it classic or try something new. Some people enjoy the addition of walnuts or chocolate chips, as you can see in one of our best banana bread recipes, or sour cream banana bread for a super moist and tangy change.

Is Strawberry Banana Bread Healthy?

Who doesn’t enjoy a sweet treat that is actually healthy? Strawberry banana bread is loaded with potassium and vitamins thanks to the fruit that is added. And if you prefer to avoid refined sugars, consider using local honey or maple syrup instead.

Other versions make the recipe suitable for specific diets, such as vegan or dairy-free. Replace the butter or shortening with oil (try avocado or coconut) or, even better, applesauce for vegan banana bread. A mixture of oil and almond milk works well too. For gluten-free banana bread, simply replace the flour with a gluten-free flour blend or oat flour, or use part gluten-free flour and part rolled oats.

Why Use Greek Yogurt in Strawberry Banana Bread?

If you thought Greek yogurt was only for breakfast or spinach dip, then adding it to a quick bread may sound a bit strange; however, once you try it, you’ll likely want to make it a permanent addition to your banana bread. Greek yogurt is known for its powerful protein punch. When it’s in a yummy treat like strawberry banana bread, you get to enjoy the bread while easily adding extra protein to your diet, which is necessary for muscle and bone development and repair.

Besides the obvious health benefits of Greek yogurt in strawberry banana bread, the yogurt creates a ridiculously moist bread with a slight tang to balance the sweet strawberries and bananas.

FAQs & Tips

How to Make Ahead and Store?

To store strawberry banana bread, wrap it completely with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. You can leave it wrapped like this on the counter for about 4 days. If you want to extend the freshness longer, it’s best to store the bread in the refrigerator. You can also make strawberry banana bread ahead of time, wrap in plastic wrap and then again in aluminum foil, and freeze it for up to six months.

What Is the Best Way to Mash Bananas?

A fork works great for mashing bananas, but if you’d like some options that are even quicker, try a potato masher or a food processor if you have one. The bananas don’t need to be perfectly smooth and consistent; however, the more mashed they are, the better.

Can I Mash Bananas and Save Them for a Later Date?

Yes! Sometimes the bananas are brown and mushy before we are ready to use them. Instead of throwing them away, mash them as you usually would and store the bananas in an airtight container in the freezer until you are ready to make your bread.

Do Strawberries Have to Be Fresh?

Frozen strawberries won’t work as well in your strawberry banana bread, so fresh strawberries are recommended. The frozen ones contain a lot of water which can lead to a mushy bread.
