FAQs

How do you use the North Spore mushroom kit? ›

Our Spray & Grow Kits should stay in the bag (and inside the box) while they grow. After removing the front panel of the box along the perforated lines, cut an X into the exposed plastic. Enough oxygen gets to the block through this cut and it directs the mushrooms to form there.

Why is my mushroom grow kit not working? ›

This might be due to the temperature being too low, insufficient moisture, or poor air circulation. It's crucial to create a warm, humid environment with good air circulation for your mushroom kit to flourish.

What is the easiest mushroom to grow in a MonoTub? ›

The monotub method is most often associated with the cultivation of manure loving Psilocybe* species such as P. Cubensis but can also be used to grow edible species of manure-loving Agaricus (like White Button or Cremini) or Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus).

How much spawn does a MonoTub need? ›

The amount of bulk substrate and spawn you will need will be dependent upon the size of your tub, but generally, one three-pound bag of spawn can be expected to colonize one or two monotubs, when combined with ten pounds of sterilized substrate.

How do you activate a mushroom kit? ›

Original Mushroom Kit Instructions
  1. Open the box. If the compost looks brown, close the kit and leave it for a week. ...
  2. Open the plastic and evenly spread the casing over the compost, leaving it loose and fluffy. Leave the kit open.
  3. Every 2-3 days mist with water. After two to three weeks mushrooms will begin to form.

Where is the best place to put a mushroom kit? ›

We recommend placing your grow kit on your kitchen bench, out of direct sunlight. This will allow you to check on them daily and serve as a reminder to spray your grow kit regularly to keep humidity high.

How often should I water my mushroom kit? ›

Humidity is a key factor for successful mushroom growth. Spray the area around your kit with a few pumps of water whenever you have a chance, at least 2-3 times a day.

Why is my bulk substrate not colonizing? ›

If your grain spawn is not colonizing, there could be several reasons. It could be a lack of moisture, too much moisture, inappropriate temperature, or contamination.

How to speed up mycelium growth? ›

The higher the inoculation rate or amount of spawn added to the substrate, the faster the mycelium will grow through the substrate. The substrate likely will not produce a larger amount of mushrooms, so a high inoculation rate means more money spent on spawn per pound of mushrooms.

How long does MonoTub fruiting take? ›

After about 10 days your MonoTub should be fully colonised and ready to fruit. Don't worry if it hasn't fully colonised by then, it can sometimes take as long as 2/3 weeks to fully colonise. This is largely dependent on the genetics of your spawn and the incubation temperature.

How long does it take for cubensis to fruit? ›

Given proper humidity, temperature, and fresh air exchange, the substrate will produce fruiting Psilocybe cubensis bodies within a month of planting.

What is the bulk substrate for cubensis? ›

Manure/Compost

Manure is the aged, dried excrement of horses, cows, elephants, etc. It is one of the most effective bulk substrates for dung loving species like psilocybe cubensis, panaeolus cyanescens and agaricus bisporus (Portobello). It is usually cheap or free if it can be located.

What is the best size Monotub? ›

A monotub should be 54 quarts, more or less. That's the size of monotub we always use, and we highly recommend that you do the same, whether you're planning on ordering our All-in-One kit or not!

Does mycelium grow faster in the dark? ›

No, this is not required. Mycelium grows just fine in a dark place, and some daylight does not matter. Do not place the mycelium in direct sunlight, this will heat the substrate and it could dry out faster.

What is the best fruiting chamber? ›

The shotgun fruiting chamber, monotub fruiting chamber, and Martha tent are the best techniques for fruiting mushrooms for beginners and even advanced growers. Since it is easy to set up these fruiting chambers anywhere in your house, it isn't necessary to convert an entire room into a fruiting chamber.

How long to soak mushroom kit? ›

Place the block with the cut down into a bowl of water. Let the block soak water for around 20 minutes. Lion's mane kits should not be soaked longer than 5-10 minutes due to it's light mycelium. If left submerged in water for too long the block might start breaking up.

How do you use a mushroom mini grow kit? ›

Your Mushroom Mini Grow Kit will do best in a warm place with indirect sunlight. Place your grow kit with the box opening face up until you begin to see small mushrooms "pinning" - then feel free to place it upright to finish growing.

What should I do with my spore syringe? ›

Slide those precious spore syringes into a clean ziplock bag and gently tuck them onto a fridge shelf. They'll stay happy there at an ideal temperature between 32°F to 46°F. Now let's talk dry storage – think cool cupboards or drawers away from any heat or light source.
